Writing a great cover letter is a bit of a lost art. You have a couple paragraphs to cover yourself, why you’re right for the job, how your experience makes you qualified, and show why you should be considered for the job in your own words. However, there’s no need to stress, because writing a travel nursing cover letter is easier than it appears if you follow these tips! Read on, because in this article, we’ll break down the 5 steps it takes to write the perfect travel nursing cover letter.

#1: Address your Cover Letter to the Right Person

Personalizing your cover letter to the correct recipient can go a long way. It’s easy to find recruiters for staffing agencies on staffing websites or across social media channels. By addressing your prospective employer by name, you’ll make a great first impression as a nurse who’s diligent, thorough, and invested in being a great addition to any facility.

#2: Tailor your cover letter to each job

If you’re applying to a travel nursing agency, you’ll probably be able to find details about your desired job through job postings on the company’s job board. Include details about the assignment that you are interested in and draw parallels to your own experience that you present on your resume. Mention how you exemplify the company’s values in your cover letter by reflecting the language they use on their websites or social channels.

#3: Avoid re-stating your resume

Your cover letter is a unique opportunity to introduce yourself, your passions, and connect with your employer in a more personal way. Stuffing your cover letter full of details that are already present in your resume is a waste of your time and the time of the individual reading your cover letter. Let your passion for the specific job you’re applying for shine through.

#4: Use industry terms, but don’t be overly technical

You want to let your prospective employer know that you are familiar with the industry, but you don’t want to come across as dry or boring due to providing too much technical jargon. And if you’re working with a recruiter, they might not have the clinical experience needed to understand some of the nitty-gritty details you provide in the cover letter. Use your cover letter to convey your expectations, your journey as a nurse, and a few pieces of applicable experience using numbers and figures rather than verbose explanations.

#5: Highlight the right abilities

As a traveler, you’re bringing a different set of skills than a permanent nurse would. Facilities might be more interested in college GPA or a desire to learn a variety of skills for full-time nurses, but for travelers, it’s more important to be a quick learner, great communicator, and have a strong background in one certain area.
