“Coaching is one of the most fulfilling ways we help. I had the opportunity to coach a travel nurse who had a unique situation in that he traveled with his wife, and they both worked in the ER. They preferred to travel together, but he was encountering issues where his previously accepted scheduling requests were no longer being acknowledged, leading to both he and his wife having to be on extension. He was at a loss for how to rectify the situation. I validated his concerns and coached him through how to approach the topic in a professional manner with unit leadership so that he was heard. He was able to work things out, and finish out his contract instead of ending it early. And he learned negotiation tactics he can apply to future issues.” - Ashten J

“We had a traveling nurse—an older gentleman—who was divorced with no family. While on assignment several states away from where he lived, he had a massive heart attack that required open-heart surgery. The prolonged work absence resulted in termination of his contract, with the option to return once he recovered. But, being freshly post-op without the ability to drive himself home, he ended up stranded. Even though he was no longer a Health Carousel nurse, my belief is once in the family, always in the family. I was determined to find a way to get him home. I got permission to work with our internal travel and housing department, and we managed to make arrangements to get him home to recover.” - Christy C
